37.7 The Noun 嘢 je5 (‘thing’) III

In Grammar and Vocabulary 18.6 and 21.4, we learned that the word 嘢 je5 (‘thing’) can sometimes refer to things that are not usually referred as thing in English.

In this lesson, we will see that 嘢 je5 can mean ‘shop’ if it is obvious in the context.

A:我想食糖水呀,呢度附近有冇糖水舖呀?
ngo5 soeng2 sik6 tong2 seoi2 aa3, ni1 dou6 fu6 gan6 jau5 mou5 tong4 seoi2 pou2 aa3?
I want to eat sweet soup. Is there a sweet soup shop near here?
